Mechanical Bestiary is a pop-up book of paper insects for iPhone. It does not collect, store on any server, share, or sell any personal information.
What the app uses on your device
- Motion and the hinge. The app reads your phone's motion sensors so the light moves across the gold and lacquer as you tilt it, and so turning the phone on its side opens the book. On iPhone Duo it reads the hinge angle to open and close the book. These readings are used in the moment and are never stored or sent anywhere.
- Your place in the book. Which spread you are on, and how you left each one (how far open, how close you zoomed, what you unfolded), are saved on your device only.
- The practice card. If you choose to print the practice card, the app hands its PDF to the share sheet, and it goes only where you send it.
What the app does not do
- No accounts or sign-in
- No advertising and no third-party SDKs
- No analytics, tracking or crash-reporting services
- No location, microphone, camera, contacts or photo access
- No internet connection
Children. Mechanical Bestiary is suitable for all ages and collects no information from anyone, including children.
