Thaw is a note-sending app for iPhone. It does not collect, store on any server, share, or sell any personal information. It has no server to send anything to.
What the app uses on your device
- Your notes. What you type is held only while you write it and is not saved by the app. The newest note you open from a link is kept on your device, with how warm the Home Screen widget has made it, in storage shared between the app and its widget. It is never uploaded.
- Sharing. When you tap Share, the system share sheet opens with a picture of the frozen note and a link. The note's words travel inside that link. Nothing is sent unless you choose where to send it, and then it goes through the app you chose (Messages, Mail and so on), under that app's own policy. Anyone who has the link can read the note, so share it only with people you want to read it.
- Thaw in Messages. The app also has a small extension in the Messages app drawer. It puts the same kind of link into a message, with a picture of the frozen note that shows no words. Messages carries the message under Apple's policy. The extension keeps what you are typing only while it is open and has no network access of its own.
- Widget. The Home Screen and Lock Screen widgets read the newest note you opened. The Lock Screen widgets never show its words.
- Motion. Thaw reads your iPhone's motion sensors while a note is open, so the meltwater runs downhill when you tilt the phone. The readings are used on the spot and are not saved or sent.
- Touch, sound and haptics. Your thumb warms the glass, and the app answers with soft sounds and small taps. None of it is recorded.
- Settings. Your sound and haptics switches are saved on your device.
What the app does not do
- No accounts or sign-in
- No network connection of any kind
- No advertising and no third-party SDKs
- No analytics, tracking or crash-reporting services of its own
- No location, microphone, camera, contacts or photo library access
Beta testing. While Thaw is on TestFlight, Apple's TestFlight app tells the studio when you install a build, passes along crash reports, and sends any feedback you choose to write, under Apple's own policy. That comes from TestFlight, not from Thaw.
Children. Thaw is suitable for all ages and collects no information from anyone, including children.
Changes. If this policy changes, the updated version will be posted at this address with a new date.
