The Dragonfly

The Dragonfly
Illustrations of Exotic Entomology II 47 ('LIBELLULA AXILENA')

Four wings, two to a page, and the book has to lie open flat for all four to show. The back pair is the broader. Each wing has a dark mark near its tip.

You close the book partway. The wings fold with a soft paper sound, the back pair under the front. You hold the page to the window, and the bend shows through as a faint line. You open it flat and close it again, for the sound.

The card reads: A dragonfly cannot fold its wings back over its body. Its relatives flew three hundred million years ago, and they could not either.
