The Firefly

You touch the lantern and it flashes, yellow-green, and goes dark, and flashes again, slowly, with a breath between.
The page behind the pin is printed with a night meadow: grass, a creek, and along the far edge a hedge, the berries on it black in the moonlight.
The firefly lifts one degree off its pin. The man at your elbow stops brushing.
Wait, he says. He has not turned around. If it goes, I will have a drawer with a hole in it.
Out the window, a long way off, a child in a pointed hat is walking along the hedge.
- Hold the firefly on its pin until the light steadies. (this door is still being cut)
- Climb out the window after the child in the hat. (for now this door opens on The Cabinet)
- Pull the pin and let the firefly go out the window.
