The Readings
The notebook is gray cloth, with a pencil in the gutter. The last pages are columns, a day to a line.
Tuesday, rain, 14. Wednesday, dusk, 3. Thursday, rain, 15. Friday, dusk, 3. Saturday, dusk, 3. Sunday, rain and then dusk, 16 and 3.
Beside every rain line is written ok. Beside every dusk line is a question mark, and beside Saturday's there are three. Farther back, for a month of pages, there is a column for the weather. Every line of it says humid.
You leave the last leaf as it is.
- Close the notebook, sit down on the stool, and wait.
- Put the notebook back, and walk west to the market under the highway.
