Velma Carter Roberts made an indelible impact on Austin with her work with the local Welfare Rights Organization and Black Citizens Task Force, founded in part by Roberts. Along with Dorothy Turner, another figure depicted in our Legends Project, Roberts tackled issues like welfare discrimination, police brutality, employment discrimination, and many more.
