Problem
Aluminum cans are abundant and structurally useful, but their factory opening is too small for planting, filling, cleaning, or combining with other materials. Sharp edges and awkward cuts also create risk.
Solution
Use a handheld can opener that cuts around the top rim cleanly, removing the lid while preserving most of the cylinder wall. Choose methods that minimize burrs and jagged edges. After opening, inspect and flatten any sharp points with pliers, sanding, or careful crimping.
